About this website
Welcome to this virtual exhibition where we will be exploring the paradox of visibility and invisibility faced by child workers in different cities of the world. And even though these children are often seen working in busy factories, streets and markets, their daily struggles and untold stories remain unnoticed by society.
Child labor is a harsh reality for millions of children worldwide, especially in urban spaces. Despite their omnipresence in the busy city life, these children often go unnoticed by passersby, and so this exhibition aims to shed light and also raise awareness on their ongoing and constant struggles and challenges they face on a daily basis.
Through a varied selection of photographs, film posters, literature, fine art, videos, and other media, I aim to convey the harsh story of these young workers. Each section in this exhibition serves to underline the different aspects of their lives, and the severe emotional and physical repercussions.
This exhibition begins with a Media Gallery where I assembled a bunch of varied media from striking photographs to literary pieces that capture the struggles of these children’s daily lives. You’ll see images of young boys and girls selling whatever they can and undergoing arduous work just to be able to survive. Through this selection, I want to evoke empathy and bring attention to their often-overlooked existence.
Moreover, through interactive elements like the Quiz and the Timeline, you will learn more about the pervasive phenomenon of child labor in different parts of the world and the efforts being made to combat and eradicate it. I deeply encourage you to engage with these elements and think about how you can potentially contribute to making these invisible children visible and ensuring they have a better future.
By visiting and exploring this exhibition, I hope you will gain a deeper understanding of what child workers endure in urban spaces. I also want you to reflect on how we as a society often overlook and ignore these children, despite their constant presence among us.
So thank you in advance for joining me on this journey to unveil the hidden lives of child workers and to shed light on their untold stories.
